Everyone loves basketball. And everyone loves innovation, but have the innovations in basketball been for the best. Richards students debate, which NBA era is better? The new era or the old era of NBA basketball?

“I think the old era is better because back then it was way more competition, there was better players, and it was more tough. Back then in general, when you tired to score you worked for it, the new era is just too easy and nobody really sticks defense like back then,” says junior basketball player, Danny Jackson.

Senior Benjamin Puckett disagrees.

“The new school era is better. The old school era has nothing on our new generation of players. We dunk better, we have better technique, and defense is better too. We have Paul George, Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. Whose really going to stick defense with them? Scottie Pippen? I didn’t think so,” said Puckett.

Other students liked the toughness players of the old era showed.

“The old school is better because fouls back then we’re played through and now all you have to do is touch someone for a foul. It was more aggressive and physical” says former senior basketball player Kevin Sullivan.

While the play might have been more physical, some see the modern era as having more competition.

“The new era is better because the old era didn’t have as much competition as the new competition as the new era now. It’s been the same concurring teams winning such as The Bulls, The Celtics, and The Lakers,” says senior, Raymond Height.
