Students from Richards’s high school went to Homewood Flossmoor high school for the IHSA (Illinois high school Association) journalism sectionals. Competing against approximately 14 other schools, a former student at Richards’s high school named Jenni Schaal competed in editorial cartooning and advertisement. Jenni Schaal won first place in cartooning and second place for advertisement.

“ I was shocked and it was very nerve wrecking at first, I was worried as well, but it was fun near the rewards, because I got to chill with Ebony and Mrs. Sherrick.” Says Jenni.

Senior, Ebony Brown who is a student at Richards’s high school as well got 6th place in news writing.

“Editorial cartooning is a difficult competition, because students need artistic ability and the ability to make an editorial comment on the provided news story. Jenni does really well with both of those areas.” Says Mrs. Sherrick.
