Today we get to take a chance to look into the life of a new student at Richards High school. I am lucky enough to call her my best friend and get her real views on how school and volleyball season is going so far for her. Isabella Natividad is a freshman here at Richards.

Becoming a freshman at Richards has been made easier by Jovanni, her senior brother, as he acted as her guide on the first couple of weeks of school. Along with her brother, she noticed that the teachers and staff at Richards are also great options to go to when confused or lost. Right away, she knew freshman year would be a challenge, yet a challenge she could overcome, especially with the help of volleyball season.

“I try to manage time well and try not to procrastinate, once you balance things, practice and homework are easy to maintain,” Natividad said. That’s just the life of trying to juggle academics and athletics at the same time.

The girl’s volleyball season started in early August, and the next game is against TFN. The Freshman’s record at the moment is 5-2 and they want to keep 2 losses at the maximum.

“We have to grow and work as a team,” Natividad said. The number 12 player realizes the impact connection and communication plays as an important key both on and off the court.

Isabella also had to say that no matter the level or grade, the volleyball team here at Richards wants to be a second family to their athletes.

“We want to be a united program, where we all have each others backs. Not just in athletics, but academics also,” said Natividad.

Natividad mentioned that from day one, the coaches from all levels made it very clear that if anyone’s struggling with school, they can go to them to seek the help they need.

“Being in an activity helps you meet more people. I am not an outgoing or get-to-know-you person, yet sports makes you have a more confident attitude. I think that is what helped me the most in my first few weeks of being a freshman,” Natividad said. The confidence that the sport has given to Natividad, helps her meet new people she would never imagine becoming friends with. By joining this activity, she has made friends on the court and even in the classroom.

“Volleyball at Richards makes school a lot more fun,” she says. That is clearly shown by the smile on her face when rushing to practice throughout the halls and being on the court enjoying the love of the game.

There is still another half of a season to go, and Isabella is ready to be up for the challenge of winning every game ahead of her, with the help of her teammates and the support of her coaches. She hopes to one day play college volleyball and continue being a volleyball player throughout her life.

“Seems like every week there is going to be a new volleyball game, or a new friend to meet. Freshman year is going to be a fun roller coaster to ride.”
